INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR PIANO:
Pianos are delicate instruments that need consistent maintenance for optimal performance. Being made of wood, wire, and felt, your piano is subject to swelling and contraction as the seasons and climates change from hot to cold or wet to dry. Extreme temperature and humidity changes affect the pitch, tone, and action response of your instrument, which is why upkeep is so important. For the structural integrity of your instrument, your piano needs to be tuned regularly. Most piano technicians and piano manufacturers recommend a piano be tuned a minimum of once every one or two years in order to maintain the structural integrity of the piano. Newer pianos require more frequent tuning, at least one to four times a year for the first five to ten years, until the strings have started to settle into pitch. Newer pianos which have not been tuned for two or more years will most likely require a pitch raise and fine tuning.

BEFORE THE PIANO TUNER ARRIVES:

The piano lid must be opened to tune the piano. Therefore, it is important to remove all music, books, and knick knacks from the piano.

Please keep in mind that a piano tuning is done aurally. First, setting a temperament in the middle octave of the piano, then tuning octaves and unisons up and down the keyboard. Most of this is done by ear, assisted by using a tuning application. To insure the best tuning possible for your instrument, it is extremely important to minimize or eliminate extraneous sounds, noises, and activities. These would include: TV, Radio, Running Water, Dishwasher, Garbage Disposal, Vacuum Sweeper, Washing Machine, Dryer, Ceiling Fans, Talking, Singing, Noises from babies and children. The quieter the environment, the better the tuning.

Piano Repairs

Prices vary depending on the nature of the needed repair. When connected with a piano tuning, repairs will be charged at a rate of $65.00 each additional hour. When not connected to a piano tuning, repairs will be charged at a rate of $95.00 for the first hour, $65.00 for each additional hour. A rough estimate will be quoted before any repairs are started. A fuel service charge may apply to locations further than 25 miles from 66062.
